The origin and facts about Jatayu Earth’s Center

There is a powerful and mythological story behind the bird Jatayu based on the epic Ramayana. It was believed that, Jatayu the epic God in Ramayana (a vulture), fought with the devil Ravana as he kidnapped Sitha Devi to Lanka (now known as Sri Lanka). Ravana cut off Jatayu’s one of the wings while trying to rescue Sitha from him. It was believed that, Jatayu fell somewhere in the small village of Kollam called Chadayamangalam.

The sculpture Jatayu idolizes the legend who lost his life as a warrior for saving the goddess and travelled in the path of righteous. So Jatayu Earth center is dedicated to “Women safety and Honor”. Women faces lots of harms and struggles in the present time. So, the sculpture of Jatayu represents the safety and protection for women from all source of harms.

There is a beautiful poem written that depicts the story of Jatayu. Some of the lines are:

“ This is where the enemy's sword
 Chopped Jatayu's wing.
The spot that accepted that flowing blood stream
Like a sobbing mother accepting her martyred son.
 The spot received that bird
 Flapping its single wing
Descending like a flag on the mast
Of this country's pride.”

       Beautiful poem of Jatayu

Jatayu is considered as the sculpture of courage, power and loyalty. The epic God Jatayu tried his maximum to save Sitha Devi from Ravana by giving his life. So, Jatayu sculpture depicts the “Women safety and honor”. It greatly depicts the ancient stories through interior designs and artistic works.

Inside the Jatayu Earth center sculpture, there are various rooms and exhibition spaces and observation deck inside the head of Jatayu where you can get a birds-eye-view of the outside world!  Each feathers of the sculpture are artistically and beautifully created.

A typical museum and theater are also there, which depicts the story of the mythological bird Jatayu.

For the construction of Jatayu rock, it took around 10 years for the complete construction. The stones are made up of concreate as well as stainless steel in a very creative and artistic manner. It is one of the most beautiful places in Kerala which attracts the travellers.
